Initial Phone Consultation

Adoption intakes are done Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 4:00pm. During this time general information is obtained from the caller and information on the upcoming orientation meeting is given.

Orientation Meeting

This meeting is designed for prospective adoptive couples new to adoption. At this meeting, you will learn St. Mary's approach to adoption which will include eligibility requirements, the home study process for domestic and international adoption, licensing and adoption fees.

Should you elect to move forward with St. Mary's on an adoption plan, complete the preliminary application and autobiographical questionnaires in their entirety and submit them to St. Mary's Services.

St. Mary's staff will review your completed pre-application materials and upon approval, Formal Application materials will be sent to you.

Formal Application

Upon receipt of your Formal Application materials and check, St. Mary’s staff will notify you to begin Phase I of the Home Study Process.

Home Study Process - Phase I

In Phase I of the Home Study Process you will be assigned a caseworker. Your caseworker will contact you to begin the interviewing process. Upon completion of the interviewing process, prior to beginning Phase II, payment is due.

Home Study Process - Phase II

Upon completion and approval of your home study you will submit to St. Mary’s Services your profile and remaining balance of your home study fee.

Preparing for Placement

This is a good time for you to complete your Foster Care Training Hours. It is our recommendation you pursue continuing education in adoption and parenting preparation.

Post Placement

Domestic adoption requires monthly post placement visits with your caseworker.
