For Social Workers and Healthcare Providers:

This training focuses on information to assist those working with patients who are making an adoption plan in the clinic and/or hospital setting. It includes information about current trends, practices, services and legal issues in adoption.

For Teachers and School Staff:

This presentation assists teachers and other school professionals with ways to bring up the subject of adoption with students. It provides educators with a solid understanding of adoption so that they can feel confident in answering students’ questions and dispelling myths about adoption. We also are available to give presentations in the classroom to students about adoption. Our presentations also include, but are not limited to the topics of : Birth Control, Sage Haven Law, and Healthy Relationships.

For Community Social Service Agencies and Crisis Pregnancy Centers:

This training provides an overview of adoption as an option. Included are suggested ways to bring up the topic of adoption, a discussion of positive adoption language and openness in adoption.

St. Mary’s also offers adoptive parent seminars that are appropriate for professionals and open to the public. Topics include: Becoming a Transracial Adoptive Family, African American Hair and Skin Care Workshop, Mental Health and Your Adopted Child, Talking to Your Child about Adoption at Different Developmental Stages, Legal Considerations for Adoption, Birth and Adoptive Families Panel, Effects of Prenatal Substance Exposure on the Developing Fetus and Managing Behaviors.

This fee does not apply to families that have been accepted into St. Mary’s domestic program. Programs are not appropriate for children* and babysitting services are not available. One credit given per seminar hour attended.
